I, too, am fed up with "Ramming "people of color" down our throats". We're all Americans-- get over your ancestry already! And, as far as I am concerned, our reparations to the Tribes have long since been paid. It's time for them to be Americans, with no special privileges.
Philanthropy is demonstrated by gifting. I choose to whom I gift. Commissioner French chooses to gift to the arts. His choice, not mine. Taxpayer dollars are not gifts. This tax increase needs to go to the voters: Democracy, not philanthropy. Watching the proponents of CAP plead their program to the Board (including Comm. French) , I observed them to be anxious and hasty. Did they not expect push-back? Jeff, you have given our community a great gift: Your time, energy, and dedication to accountability. I thank you and appreciate you. Clallam County, pay it forward.
Amen Denise. Without Jeff's time and dedication to keeping us informed, we would probably be broke from taxation and spending by our county commissioners.
I find it strange that Clallam County puts, gives, donates, and or extracts so much money to donate ,invest, fund, so many "nongovernmental" business interests. And so many " non profit" organizations arent non profit.I am referring to ones such as clallam county economic development council which is private equity with multi" stakeholders" and " investors". If an organization or entity were" non profit" then how would those see " returns"?! Its misleading,to say the very least. And while I am all for the Arts.. honestly, I think the dancers will dance, the painters will paint ,and the thespians will perform their wonderful shows regardless of this tax. Many residents are stretching their income to just get by.. I think its best that if they want to support the" arts" they will.by buying tickets for performances..purchasing goods made by local artists etc.But let that choice be freely made, not imposed, forced. If every ones interests ,hobbies and cultural history were to be " taxed" then it might be time for a " tea party."
AMEN Brenda! Our country was founded because of "taxation without representation", which we most certainly have once again. I wonder if 1000 angry people, overflowing a Commissioner's meeting, each holding a symbolic pitchfork, would get their attention.
This is an excellent example of how taxes keep creeping up, never down. Thank you Jeff! It starts out when people vote for a fire department, for a sheriff department, and necessary community infrastructure. Seizing the opportunity to spend other people's money, the Commissioners throw our tax money at any good-sounding idea they can, the desires of the people be damned.
The government of the people, by the people, and for the people is actively working against the people. The miscreants in office do WTF they want for their campaign donors. Ask them what other programs they want to cut 0.1% to compensate for this pork barrel BS? Ask them how much of a pay/donation cut THEY want to compensate? Ask them why they favor housing voluntary drug addicts over veterans, in facilities that a substantial portion of our residents could not afford. Sadly, the voters get the representation they deserve. Until those that voted for these wanton spendthrifts are hurting, nothing will change.
I mean, what the hell is going on in the County that we wouldn't even KNOW about this wasteful spending - unless Jeff so eloquently served it up? Those 0.1% taxes are really starting to add up. Vote accordingly.
Cultural access program ? Why would our Government having anything to do with a cultural access program ? This crazed preoccupation of creating minority causes to throw money at must stop. Each of us is genetically unique with unique cultural histories. Why establish groupings so we can then discriminate us from each other ? I can honor my ancestry and others can do the same without taxing the public to do so.
That's a good point. Before we invest more, I wouldn't mind waiting to see if the tens of millions invested in Field Arts Hall really attracts the crowds from Victoria and Seattle as hoped. You are always welcome, Eric. Thanks for always coming to the meetings and for your public comments.
I wish the tribes leadership was moral enough to pay their fair share. I'm thinking the totem pole at the city hall might just be a symbol of ownership of Sequim.
Its all part of that oath you see on the NODC webpage:
We acknowledge that we live and work on the appropriated homeland and territory of the Jamestown S’Klallam, Port Gamble Klallam, Lower Elwha Klallam, Makah, Quileute, Hoh and Quinault Tribes. We respect and honor their stewardship of these lands in the past, present and future and their Treaty Rights and status as sovereign nations.
There is a guy that testifies at the Commissioners hearings that opens his testimony with that very line.
They are ruining our County and our Cities. The tribal no tax model operating off the trust lands competing with a taxed non-native model is a model that violates anti trust laws and has no future.
Why do we need to wait for the various “meetings” of the Oligarchy to have community debate? Why is there no town hall meeting for “We the People” in our local community to discuss the subjects that you cover in these articles?
Also my thanks to Jeff for timely info that I wouldn’t get any other way. Summer and fall finds many of us are out and about. Jeff is keeping us informed because the powers to be would prefer to keep us far removed from knowledge that would instigate questions or cause rational, public discussions!
He is smart. He knows the Marxist cash flow is a bigger pile of cash than the church collection plate and it suits his victim victimizer agenda. Notice how they all seem to look like nerds who couldn't catch the ball, got stuffed into High School garbage cans, or couldn't get the cheerleaders attention. Or they are equally frustrated gay women. Now they are getting even. Navarra Carr is the rep at the NODC with the tribal members. Everybody over there is engaged in retribution politics...making sure our worst players are on the field so China and India can take over the manufacturing economy for the world economy.. That's why they banned my pictures... They tried to close that curtain faster than the wizard.. The retribution politics uses environmental issues as the main shield and vessel for the victims. The last thing they want is to have their environmental shortcomings exposed. Then the people will see its all retribution politics by the perceived victims getting even with the victimizers. They really just get even with the middle class and white poor, not the corporations and colleges, the entities that made the most money.
Thanks for digging up some more fine examples of Waste, Fraud, and Abuse by our County, perpetrated by it's commissioners! How Disappointing! What I find more troubling is how the "Jamestown Tribe" keeps coming up as some sort of participant in most of these stories! Also, very disappointing.
Hmmm.... good point, Mike. The Tribe seems to have their fingers in everything, INCLUDING the ability vote (and bribe) for things that raise OUR taxes but not theirs. Wouldn't that be like us imposing taxes only on Tribal fishing, say? Or imposing taxes on any Tribal property?
yes sir! That's what I think. In fact, today, I'm noticing "No on 2117" signs on their properties. I'd guess that the tribes keep that extra $.43 per gallon, on top of the ridiculously high gas taxes we had before that.
The tribes, LGBT and unions, are exploiting the victim victimizer model. They have lined our tax dollars up for spending out of resentment. All of them constantly look through the lens of resentment wherever they are at, in government or in a non-profit. They figured out how to tether the non-profit NGO to our government so they can steer our policy to achieve a goal based upon the resentment generated by the victim victimizer model. This is crystal clear in the ICLEI propaganda, BLM and Antifa. They are all the components of the victim victimizer narrative.
I'm curious about the chances of heritage organizations like Daughters of the American Revolution or Sons of Norway receiving funding from this.
Ramming "people of color" down our throats, to get even with all that honky ass rule that's been going on.

Very insightful, Denise. "Anxious and hasty" are the right words.
Amen Denise. Without Jeff's time and dedication to keeping us informed, we would probably be broke from taxation and spending by our county commissioners.
It always helps to have friends in the gallery :)
Our county commissioners should not have the ability to raise taxes without a vote! That is tyranny.

You might want to nix the pitch forks.

I still think you should write cards for Hallmark, NOI -- you have a way with words! Does "death by 1,000 cuts" fit this situation?
THIS 👆🏻

Kate, I'm not happy until I ruin at least one person's day. You're welcome :)
Lol, OMG so good :)

If philanthropic donations dry up, doesn't that indicate a lesser demand for the "arts" or whatever endeavor the donations were meant to support?
Thanks Jeff for the insightful reporting and commentary.
That's a good point. Before we invest more, I wouldn't mind waiting to see if the tens of millions invested in Field Arts Hall really attracts the crowds from Victoria and Seattle as hoped. You are always welcome, Eric. Thanks for always coming to the meetings and for your public comments.
Exactly.
Excellent writing Jeff with "Evidence"! If only the commissioners would listen to us...they all think we have an endless stream of money.
Thanks, Pamela. Commissioner Ozias told me he doesn't read these articles... but a nearly-full boardroom gallery found out his wife does.
The commissioners reading this is optional. For the voters in Clallam County, mandatory!
I wish the tribes leadership was moral enough to pay their fair share. I'm thinking the totem pole at the city hall might just be a symbol of ownership of Sequim.

So, when will the "debt" be paid and they become law-abiding Americans?
They are ruining our County and our Cities. The tribal no tax model operating off the trust lands competing with a taxed non-native model is a model that violates anti trust laws and has no future.
AMEN!

Excellent quote. I updated the article and included that. Thanks so much for posting his words.
Thank you Jeff.

I'm so glad you are reading the articles, Susan.
I hang on your every word😀
Mike French will tell…unashamedly…that he’s the smartest person in the room. Good luck on having a dialogue with him. Very arrogant person. Very…

You forgot to include "illegal immigrants".
