The most intolerant people are those that preach tolerance. Their very inability and unwillingness to tolerate anyone they deem intolerant renders their whole ethos irrelevant and worthy of ridicule.
Might be committing self immolation with my comment but I've just had enough of this baloney. I'm a middle boomer. I've seen cultural issues gradually drift to center. When in high school if I went on a date the first thing my mother would ask "Is your date Catholic?" Any possible relationship with a girl outside the church to my Depression born mother was a threat. Same sex marriage would've been inconceivable. Mixed race marriage was something that was okay but not for her and quietly she hoped wouldn't ever happen in the family. My long gone father-in-law (b1909) was definitely an Archie Bunker. With his passing I knew I'd never have to listen to his "separate but mostly equal" B.S. again. He was all for civil rights as long as they didn't own the home next door. I like to think in the last years of his life that he changed as many of the people caring for his needs were people that didn't look or talk like him. I believe he found some humility and grace. My children are colorblind. My grandchildren are as well. With the passing of each generation old prejudices pass with that person.
This rush to DEI is destructive. Its no different than my father in law going on about everyone needs to know their lane and stay in it. If you push you get pushback. Quit forcing things. There are better use of energies. Finally (here comes the self immolation) I think there are people who no matter what are just "busy bodies". They are small, petty and will continue to be small and petty. They want to be a force of something. They want recognition. They need to "right" a perceived wrong. You'll always have a few of these. Too bad they can't redirect to something that is constructive. Too bad they can't become more like Jean Pratschner who you profiled last month.
Wasted energy in my opinion. A tiny cause for a tiny advocate for a non issue.
You know when it’s grassroots with slot of individual community support it stays great….. it’s when other fingers get into the dough it goes a rye … pun intended
Hey, I noticed that Jean Pratschner has made several comments about this program not being related to the DEI, and framing the program as matter of safety rather than discrimination on gender.
Since you have previously praised her work could you write an addendum to this article regarding the hypocrisy of selective inclusions and you opinion about whether or not if equity sometimes requires accommodations based on different lived experiences?
Didn't lite yourself on fire there…a resounding ‘I feel just like that!’ And similar situations, exchange grandfather for grandmother. It seems these are the small issues that get way out of hand because they are “awwww” issues.
I am sure that your words and thoughts resonate with many and it is in communications like yours that true "inclusion" is naturally encouraged. This evil DEI crappola (my preferred "Archie Bunkerism" ;-) was actually conceived by the criminals of humanity who are desperate to keep dividing folks against each other because that is their true source of power over humanity. These evil monsters fully understand that humanity will come together, and "prejudice" will naturally be eliminated over time if they do not create & foster division. I remember being "turned off" by the TV sitcom "All in The Family" as a young child due to all of the yelling, screaming, and fighting in that show, because I had more of that in my own family then was healthy... I will never forget the day I was in Jr high school in the early 70's when walking to a class I noticed the back of a shirt on another student that had a big picture of "Archie Bunker" holding a stogie (cigar) and it said "There's a little of me in all of youze"~! Ha Ha Ha! Well, I started to watch that old TV show from time to time over the next couple of decades and it quickly became obvious that there were some very good & positive messages hidden inside of all that horrible "crappola" on the surface. Social engineering, like a loaded gun, can be either good or bad depending upon the hands it is in~! Oh, and the great Carroll O'Conner, as far as I personally know, was indeed a great and compassionate man who was said to not be at all prejudice himself, but he was quite the character actor ;-) Anyway, have a great early Spring Day and thanks again for your thoughtful & meaningful contribution~! Sincerely, Mike
Safe parking spaces? How is a transgender person not safe in Sequim when parking? The trouble with this DEI nonsense is it chooes favorites at the expense of others. Total BS!
I did not realize that Sequim was such a scary place to park your car. I would be interested to understand the issues that prompted this. Are single women, women with children and trans people being attacked when they park in downtown Sequim? What if it’s one of those people doing the attacking? Just more money being spent to try and drive a wedge between us human beings. Enough.
Diversity, equity and inclusion are worthy goals. However, those words became feel good monikers for using discrimination to end discrimination. Much like BLM; DEI rose to a point of absurdity where anyone not female, darker skin toned, pleasantly plump and/or sexually deviant need not apply. I believe that gender, skin tone, ancestry and sexual orientation should not be discriminated against. I also believe those features should then not be used as qualifications. The physical features noted are a tiny beginning down the rabbit hole of minority status. Each of us are biologically unique, making each of us a minority of one. Is it imperative that we all have exactly the same lives, physical assets and/or thoughts ? Senior age discrimination is societally acknowledged and punishable. Should Joe Biden successfully sue for age discrimination against the Democratic Party because the party ultimately refused to support him, for four more years, obviously because of the detriment of age ? If you prefer chocolate to vanilla, why are you discriminating against vanilla ? Discrimination is a ubiquitous human trait.
This will give Port Angeles some ideas, like priority parking for homeless vehicles along Laurel Street next to the Safeway and along Eunice St., next to Jessie Webster Park.
How about safe and protected parking for Teslas? Or people with MAGA hats? Around here, nobody should be more scared of having their property damaged than conservatives.
Why did Jim Stoffer refuse to respond to your question? It is an appropriate inquiry to a public statement that is on record. One would think he'd use this opportunity to explain his proposal. This is just another example of the hypocrisy of these programs. Question everything. Everyone deserves safety. Everyone.
Stoffer forwarded your email to someone without your permission? I thought that was the just of their Mr. Stoffer and Ms. Johnstown’s complaint? Ms. Johnston & Mr. Stoffer said since you are an elected official you can not share other elected officials communications without permission from the communication originator?. So please try to exactly to your best guess tell us what you have supposedly done wrong? I’ll wait.
He’s probably waiting to respond at the Charter Review Committee meeting this coming Monday? Like Ms. Johnson’s response to Jeff’s letter he wrote to her. The Commission has now entered the twilight zone……..those kind of gangs always manage to screw up a good thing…..where is the protection?
We recently learned where protection comes from... I just need to marry a fiercely independent woman with privileged access who will ambush John Worthington from behind and escape into the off-limits areas of the People's House.
When will the 'fence sitters' realize that their unwillingness to push back against this insanity is the very thing that is enabling it? We need a return to common sense. When groups like the "Sequim Good Governance League" (what a joke of name) tell you they're the real bigots, behave like the real bigots, and champion policies which are bigoted... you should believe them, you should believe your eyes. Then you should aggressively oppose them!
These people either lack insight or they are intentionally setting out to alienate others outside their designated protected class. Men, in this case, might feel unfairly targeted or punished, especially if the policy stems from safety concerns implying they’re inherently a threat. When people perceive favoritism, public trust erodes. A universal approach—more cameras, patrols, or lighting—might be in order if safety is the concern.
It is the stupid “woke” mentality toward men. Sorry this community has a lot of elderly women who have become aligned (maybe have always been) in misandry.
OOPSY DAISY! MY BAD! I don't think Jim Stoffer put enough thought into his rules of a Safe Parking Program, otherwise he would have responded to your inquiry and be able to defend his program.
Can anyone say INSANITY! Truly rule by extreme minority.
How about we apply the laws on the books already and get the violent OFF OUR STREETS and into some kind of appropriate housing/containment situation...this should of course include some kind of rehab opportunity for those able and willing but leftist liberal thinking and law(lessness) insists on letting criminals run free because they have their rights too!
All of our rights and privileges overlap and begin and end when we do harm to another without moral cause, such as... self-defense or perhaps removing criminal elements from abusive actions to the public good.
If a person or agency is behaving immorally or even amorally (allowing known evil) they need to be removed and possibly detained and replaced by good people doing good, not reactive freakazoids skewing truth for attention and hijacking the public and our funds for every 'special needs' group that pops its head up.
These people never got the lesson of killing the goose that laid golden eggs!
I'm an aging white low-income male and my needs are being left the hell alone to live out my little life in peace without being shamed/harrassed and taxed into oblivion!
GO MAGA!🥸TRUTH, JUSTICE, LIBERTY AND TOUGH LOVE!!!
Sounds like a big waste of money to me. How much did they spend on this? Everyone needs a safe place to park. Mothers with children have been able to park and get their children into a store safely for years. And those who disagree with most of the DEI programs believe in meritocracy. People with the best scores and most talent get the job, instead of giving it to someone because of the color of their skin or who they say they are. Instead of DEI programs, they should spend the money on making educational programs to train children in a trade or tutoring them to improve their scores before they graduate from high school, so they can compete in college, not push them into a college they aren't prepared for, and set them up for failure. And work on keeping fathers in households so children have a competitive edge.
Oh Carolyn there you go spouting off about traditional values. Give me a dedicated birthing person and a caring state with an inclusive social safety net along with an enlightened school district that’s committed to diversity and equitable outcomes and I’ll show you a better society.
In a SAFE parking lot it is primarily critical to provide SAFE above all else. If i had been raped by a man, who may or may not have been convicted and therefore vetted unsafe, then i would not want to worry about the guy parked next to me. A violent act is a forever memory and a reason to be fearful of the guy in the next car. Maybe another lot in another church lot can allow single men only, kinda like toilets. Equal but separate.
Do you really think those people are going to honor a freaking parking zone designation?
Do you think the bad guys can't assault before the police arrive?
Now we need special police 24/7 at each vulnerable location, which is pretty much everywhere now thanks to extreme liberalism...we have 2 criminal households on our little street of 13 houses...just waiting for shtf which is inevitable the way things are going.
Vulnerable people need special COMMUNITIES to be a part of like some kind of compassion farm where all able bodied participate to their best ability...not remaining isolated in their hovels waiting for the next violent encounter to occur. It would require a lot of infrastructure and quality supervision but the cost to society of business as usual is WAY TOO COSTLY and unsustainable.
You ought to see the speed at which 'the tribe' is building (8?) two-story, low income units at Carlsborg Rd. and E. Runnion...they could build a compassion village in a year or less to meet the needs of any number of people (as non-profit).
In fact, since 'the tribe' is now effectively controlling the county it is now their mandate to provide for all special needs members of society by their own power of self-taxation to fund it all...no tax increases for the people in general. No more NGO's funded by us. No more taxing the 'have-somes' to cover the rest of 'society'.
Can the powers that be start to feel the outrage building against them...probably not...sociopaths are good at feigning compassion...not so good at being compassionate. TRUTH, JUSTICE, LIBERTY AND TOUGH LOVE!😊
Didn't that all start with a fly buzzing around in his car while he was stuck in a traffic jam? That movie made me be A LOT nicer to people having a bad day.
Yep, same anger as in Jack Nickolson's scene in "5 EASY PIECES" the famous "Hold the Toast" scene. If bill 1334 passes increasing property tax by 3% plus taxing our financial savings, PLUS including what the commissioners are are adding on, I imagine there is going to be a whole lot of us Jack Nickolson's out there. NO SUBSTITUTIONS.
Also it seems Jim Stoffer hasn't considered the safety of those who will enforce it..."Staffed by OlyCap employees and trained volunteers..." Do they wear a black T-shirt with SECURITY? Anytime there needs to be a confrontation of any sort, expect a BAD outcome. It's like cutting to the front of the line...it won't go over good.
First I respect the work you do. However time and again there are no absolutes. Hopefully their endeavors work and it does not become a human experiment. The twisted experiment we’ve all felt with in the past four years has damaged our compassion. These forums reveal just how much.
Our challenge is becoming more mindful of ourselves again. Creating fellow feeling. Most of all KNOWING How to practice it and with whom. The old saying “you will always have the poor with you” is true but also the saying “if you don’t work you don’t eat”. That was the thought generated toward people who became lazy and were wanting others to support them…..
So here we are, again! If you want to be apart of Community then BE what that community expects of you. I don’t have to become homeless to become your support!.
So what I’m saying in essence is create child care and get these people working. On their feet and off the dole.
Ooh, "transgender people". There's your catch-all. Be whichever gender they're admitting. Today I'm male, but tomorrow I'll be "eligible for special parking".
The most intolerant people are those that preach tolerance. Their very inability and unwillingness to tolerate anyone they deem intolerant renders their whole ethos irrelevant and worthy of ridicule.
Very good comment TJ :)

Equity is not a worthy goal. Equity literally means striving for equality of outcome, not equality of opportunity. It is wrong and dangerous.

Good, you're still working on that blockbuster movie! But, John Worthington's attire should include Al Green's cane. Safety first.
That made me laugh out loud….!
You get to work in wardrobe!
Equal justice under the law. If taxpayers are funding it, there should be equal access.
Exactly! If they want a parking spot only open to 6'3" transgender Somali pirates the they should buy a lot and build it.
That's about it in a nutshell...but NO!...you're being hyperbolic...aren't you?
From the sublime to the ridiculous that's how humanity rolls left to their own laws and devices.
Love your witty humor you sexist bigot white male pig!!!!🤣
Did you just assume my gender, ethinicity AND species? I'm literally shaking rn.

Somewhere around 30% of the first 3 rows of parking are already 'special needs'. Empty much of the time.
What an outrage that Tesla chargers are front and center of many locations.
Never seen one plugged in.😱
