Didn't realize Aristotle was the source of the saying! Thank you.

He also said, "At his best, man is the noblest of all animals, separated from law and justice he is the worst" If I didn't know he has been dead for so long, I would have sworn he lived in Clallam County and made that quote for us.

Thanks Jeff.

Once again without your reporting I would have assumed that this is a totally "no brainer" project because...well... everyone wants plenty of water. Right? And maybe it is the right choice. However I'm not sure if we are trying to fix something that's not really broken and if there isn't total transparency then I'm just completely off at any time. If the questions cannot be clearly answered with regards to who and how this all benefits the community before construction then it shouldn't move forward till those question and issues are resolved.

You're welcome, Lawrence. I wouldn't wish the Towne Road debacle on any community, but that mess taught us some valuable lessons. I see the County slipping into its "propaganda" role again here and prioritizing special, political, personal, and private interests ahead of public interests. It just seems to be part of the County culture.

Have you noticed that politicians always get rich on modest salaries. They must skim off the top somehow. So, getting $30M FEMO money means probably $3M to grease palms with... Just speculating, of course...

The government cooks up projects because it grows government and their stature. Employees become managers become directors, with commensurate salaries. Federal and state money is free..... oh, wait.

This project started exactly when they started charging and metering new wells. My property was once considered for this project (later decided that my dried up ponds were too small). They even dug a test well 10 years ago during the initial site study. They presented the project as soley to benefit the river flows. It all came about as water mitigation and tribal treaty rights for the salmon. As far as earthquakes....to be honest the fact that we don't get many small ones at the Cascadia fault means that we get giant ones every 500 years. Most every standing structure is going to fall down. Bridges, builtings, even highways. Certainly the flooding right next to the resovoir will happen too, likely no way to stop it. The big question is whether adding a few cubic feet per second to the river will really increase salmon when they are under pressure in so many other says. Is this a waste of money? Most likely. We have been supporting the salmon run with millions spent on the hatchery for decades with no natural return of salmon. Never in the world has a salmon run been returned. Sometimes I think this state is run by baboons.

If the Tribes didn't wantonly decimate the salmon for profit, and abided by the same fishing regulations the rest of us must obey, there would be no salmon problems. Instead, the poor ol' tribes want to be immune to regulations to "preserve their heritage", which didn't include nylon fishing nets or diesel trucks and boats. Mitigate the Tribes and the salmon will be plentiful.

What I’d like to know if the tribes a sovereign nation and their involved, why is our tax payer money paying for this? If the tribes invoked, are they paying for some of it? Since the tribe is one of the most successful businesses in our county why is most of the tax payers paying for this when most of the people can barely afford their taxes

I think we already know who's projects and plans will benefit the most one way or the other. Also, we know who it will be, if any group does claim ownership of the water. The JKT, of course.

From Britannica

Propaganda is the dissemination of information—facts, arguments, rumours, half-truths, or lies—to influence public opinion. Deliberateness and a relatively heavy emphasis on manipulation distinguish propaganda from casual conversation or the free and easy exchange of ideas.

But pay attention to the bumper sticker comment please. How can you argue with it?

Its the gang that cant see or shoot strait. Making awful decisions and refusing to be transparent or accountable. Its a global partnership out to cripple America by controlling the water and the river sediment that provides the minerals that are no longer in our food.

https://www.facebook.com/reel/1509498909689956

Disassembling the Dungeness and Agnew irrigation systems was actually a continuation of the plan to achieve the critical goal of removing minerals from our food. This type of stuff is nation wide. While the NODC was making its action plans for the region, other ICLEI Charter members across America were doing the same thing. Using the tribes as tools to rid America of its farming in mineral rich soil.

Mr. Smith lied. The alluvium is not being sent through the PVC piping. WDFW already sent me an email verifying that the alluvium is being sent downriver for the express purpose of building up in the flat parts of the river to cause historic flooding before the ditches. In other words flood the mineral rich farmlands where the population could grow foods in mineral rich soil.

Only a possessed, petty and vindictive tribal member would sentence his own people and others to shorter lives so he could get power from the same people that are the first to blurt out there are too many people on the planet and want to increase the participation in the world economy. They dangled their reparations and he took the bait.

They are short sighted and dastardly global saboteurs as far as I am concerned.

Having miles of irrigation dirt ditches filled with water is much cheaper & more conservative & effective than a 72 acre 100-150 deep reservoir sitting on dirt & nothing preventing 72 acres of water evaporation. The renegotiated 2012 water treaty rights was changed to secure water for the fish, however nothing protected the river from the tribe splitting off multiple tributaries depleting the amount of water in the main channel from the schoolhouse to the main pipe up the river withdrawing the water for irrigation purposes. The tribe said the restoration project would restore the salmon population & was the basis for the restoration project. Farm irrigators should provide their own personal reservoirs, holding ponds and wells like the rest of us have to do if they want businesses providing food for profit until October. Doing that would provide more water for the fish in the fall months until the rains come. Salmon wait in the bay anyway until rains come with colder water.

Expand full comment

EXCELLENT POINT, Pepai! Didn't they pipe the irrigation ditches to reduce evaporation? Well, 72 acres is 3,115,000 sq ft of surface area. If an irrigation ditch is 3 feet wide, this would be the equivalent of 1,038,336 feet of irrigation ditch, which is almost 200 miles of ditch. I smell more fish.

My point exactly. Where is the conserving water? The reservoir is worse!

I have been a real estate analyst for about 40 years and after living in numerous locations I decided to live in the Sequim area over 10 years ago. I have seen a tremendous amount of corruption over the decades and right here in the Sequim & Clallam County area it is just as bad as anywhere else that I have ever lived. This new dam project stinks and what I am seeing has all of the signs of corruption and social engineering that violates not only the will of the good folks living here but it has the serious potential of creating a future disaster that could easily result in many deaths and destroyed properties. Whenever I hear the usual fear mongering fake science being used by the government and their supporters in any project, I automatically know that "we" (Americans) are being lied to and deceived to get us to go along with something that is always against our best interest~! Who will be paying for this dam project and its upkeep? Who will be responsible for any and all damage that this project causes? Who will be responsible for the loss in value of the properties of the folks who are negatively impacted, especially those living below and downstream of this dam project? Why is this dam project SO important right now, because it has never before been supposedly so critical? Exactly who is pushing this dam project and why? Who is profiting from this proposed project unbeknownst & undisclosed to the good folks in the Sequim area? Why are some of the key supporters of this dam project, who are already claiming the water rights without taking any of the responsibilities, suspiciously absent at this public meeting? Lastly, is there nowhere else that such a dam project could be built to ensure a safer location and a far less negative impact on the folks in the Sequim area? Water could easily be piped into the Sequim area from a dam/reservoir located in a number of other places without the risk to such a densely populated area... We should NEVER allow any public works project to go forward unless and until ALL reasonable questions have been seriously and thoroughly addressed to the satisfaction of all concerned~! The government has a terrible track record involving exactly these kinds of projects and the general public usually learns all of the dirty secrets decades later when it is too late to avert the problems because these projects get shoved down our throats with a bunch of lies, false promises and weak assurances~! Now is the time to hold those involved in this dam project, who are in the government and their associates, 100% responsible because they will be long gone when/if problems arise~!

Excellent comment Jeff Tozzer~! It does have the same stink to it just as a thousand+ other similar government orchestrated schemes that I have seen and analyzed have~! Over the decades I have often wondered where these low life criminal manipulators come from and who is teaching them their twisted deceptive methods? Political Science social engineering 101~? Evil parents? Due to my parents need-to-know professional careers I was well informed even as a young child, so I can easily see right through these nasty games. Of course, studying law since I was 9 years old and reading more case law than many attorneys does give me an edge, but thank God good folks like you are also paying attention~! I have learned the hard way NEVER to trust the government, especially when they try to act like they are in a hurry and there is no time for "us" to wait~! I am an American Constitutionalist, so it is not as if I hate the government, it is just a Constitutionalists greatest dream to have a good government someday~! Ha! Enjoy life and stay safe because these idiots in government have pushed America right over the edge with these countless schemes big & small and it sure looks as if "we" are headed for even more difficult times~! Very difficult times indeed~!!! Sincerely, Mike
