The Commissioners, Road Department, and DCD showed no indication of backing away from the aggressive timeline to finish Towne Road this year. Public comment saw about 15 "Dungeness Levee Trail Advocates" (DLTA) call for a pause, or complete abandonment, of the project. Notably, two-thirds of anti-road speakers either live south of the blockade (a neighborhood that has benefited from drastically reduced traffic) or have been granted exclusive access to the unfinished roadbed. DLTA did not have any public commenters residing north of the closure. Sharing the same talking points, their message supported that of the Tribe and the Bonneville Environmental Foundation.
Attendees supporting the commissioners' resolution to complete Towne Road were equal in number and encompassed a broader focus concerning ethics, leadership, and the county's legal liability if it were to purposefully cut off this vital link between communities. There was a general sense that a return to policies and procedures could be the first step in restoring public trust.
Mark your calendars — it is important the public show support at the next Towne Road update, which is scheduled for Monday, March 4th, at the 9:00 work session.
I think they watch what is being posted and try to counter that at the hearings. If we find they spent road money on trails or anything else, the County road division violated RCW 36.82. I see they have restarted the process, so this is not a done deal. The chances are a lawsuit is going to have to be filed on wasted tax dollars. Next week I will figure out how to get my stuff on the screen.
Thanks for the update and all you do every week.
