Unique insight from the wife of a fire fighter who responded to the house fire on Towne Road this summer:
"The fire in the home across from the old Dungeness School on August 23 nearly took human life. If my husband and another volunteer CCFD3 firefighter had not arrived from the Anderson Road end of the incident, one or more of the women in that burning building might have been injured or killed because Towne Road is still not fully finished! Blaine arrived and so did the other with a Tender Truck -- it hauls water and he put what he could on the fire as Blaine helped the women out through the burnng kitchen and restrained them carefully from going back into the inferno to find their pets. The engines with the career firefighters were delayed because in the middle of the night, without the big flashing light sign at Towne Rd. on Woodcock Rd. they forgot that they could not get through to the other end of the road! This error belongs to Clallam County, NOT CCFD3! Those precious minutes lost in turning around and going back to Woodcock and east to Sequim Dungeness meant a big difference in the outcome. Clallam County's delay in finishing Towne is an unnecessary delay that is risking life every day."
Now I understand why Fire Chief Orr said, "the added response time certainly added to the loss for that family." If you think the reopening of Towne Road will benefit the safety of our community, please contact County Commissioners by October 10th by emailing Clerk of the Board
