So enlightening Jeff - I was able to participate in lobbying efforts in DC some years back on behalf of nurses - our trainer often reminded us that “if you are not at the table you will be on the menu” - surely Clallam County taxpayers deserve better than what is currently going on in secret and shielded meetings ! Stay pesky Jeff !! You always provide tasty treats- well digested too!!!

Thanks Jeff. Seems like these commissioners have picked one master over another, the almighty dollar from the "Tribe" over the "people".

Article I of Washington State Constitution

SECTION 1 POLITICAL POWER.

All political power is inherent in the people, and governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, and are established to protect and maintain individual rights.

Commissioners mission statement

Putting the translated desires of our residents into action through effective communication

Providing comprehensive and exemplary public service levels in a prompt responsive manner

Maximizing and enhancing our environmental resources for sustainability and legacy expectations

Celebrating the diversity and inclusiveness of our residents’ contributions to our quality of life.

Are the actions of our elected commissioners reflective of the oaths they took to uphold the state constitution and their own mission statement? Having attended most public meeting for almost a year, I have only seen a few instances of commissioners upholding the principles they purportedly represent.

You're welcome, Eric. I agree, they have strayed. If we had an enforceable Code of Ethics and Board of Ethics, that could change things.

Gut-punch article, Jeff. I hope Clallam County residence wake up. This is the clearest example of taxation without representation I’ve seen. I’m not one to jump to conclusions but like you said at the end of the article, maybe that is the plan all along.

The worst part is knowing there were people like Jeff and others emailing them for years before things got worse. They just tuned it all out and went over the tribal cliff like Thelma and Louise. It started with Tharinger/Chapman/ Doherty. My poor county. They kept saying it was misinformation, called the Sheriff and then ignored us. That's the Democrats new way.

Can anyone say CRIMINAL INTENT? This fiasco is more than ignorant incompetence...this is an attempted HOSTILE TAKEOVER of government...secret deals after hours on private lines...paying bribes to not be named the perpetrator when YOU ARE THE PERPETRATOR!?!

The JKT is a criminal organization and people are buying the bullshit because we treated the natives badly 200 years ago...they treated each other badly...that's what humans do to each other...it doesn't excuse it but cow-towing to 'the tribe' (small case intentional) because of

'white guilt' or some other 'woke' agenda is stupidity.

Wakey, wakey folks...our national and local governments have been and are being hijacked right in front of out eyes, for those who have eyes to see.

If you are still voting democrat you are voting for the destruction of America.

If you blindly worship 'the tribe' you are voting for the destruction of our Rights and Freedoms as a sovereign nation. Say la vie.

Not only is 'the tribe' a foreign corporation they have ties to Seattle-Sequim-Atlanta yet I find nothing online verifying that. It is on a logo... JKT Construction Division Seattle-Sequim-Atlanta...Does something seem out of place in that line-up? Sequim sandwiched between two megalopolis's?

The first intuition that comes to mind is mob money. Dangerous territory but it seems in line with the behavior of 'the tribe'. Bribery, collusion, extortion (destroying the dike and forcing us to pay millions more.) Coercion, threats of catastrophic flooding, suggesting designated disaster zone at 3 crabs to lessen property values. Withdrawing properties from taxable status...these are all tactics of a criminal organization.

I fear you are correct that the real plan is bankruptcy. This all seems to be a glaring example of Problem/Reaction/Solution. The tribe has a solution in mind, what it is I do not know. But if they create a big enough problem for the county and wait for the reaction that our county is failing and doesn’t know what to do, they can swoop in and present the solution that they already had in mind to begin with. Classic radical tactic to move a Society, group, government, environment, or any entity in a direction of your desire. PROBLEM/REACTION/SOLUTION.

It's almost like having a medical clinic that prescribes opioids and then having another clinic that treats opioid addiction. Crazy.

Expand full comment

Yeah and then getting paid by the state to bus patients between your Medical, Dental, and Addiction clinics and then paid $600 every time they walk through the door even if you just say hello. Prescribe meds at the med clinic that are addictive and destroy teeth ($600), bus them to the dental clinic($600), bus them to the addiction clinic ($600), bus them back to the med clinic($600). Get more state funding to provide housing, food, and further transportation. Rinse repeat. Never ending revenue stream.

I remember listening to the opposition (those who wanted Towne Road to remain closed) week after week asking the County to save money by not paving the road. Asking the County to take away a county road because of how much it would cost to pave it!!!! NEVER did we hear from those people about how much money was spent & whose fault or responsibility it was for the 7 MILLION $$$$ MISTAKE. If it truly was the Corp of Engineers fault then why don’t they foot the bill, wouldn’t that be the federal government?

They seem to circumvent the bid process a lot, for a while I was keeping track of them when they showed up in the agenda items published in the PDN. Just yesterday there's one that says "request to waive Bid/RFP/quote requirements for costs of procuring and delivery of furniture for the old Law Library suite." How is that an emergency and aren't there rules about bypassing the three bid law?

Expand full comment
author

They way they tell it, they got a whole office-full of high-end furniture for free from a Seattle law firm with one caveat: it must be moved very, very soon. The "free" furniture is going to cost $27k to move from Seattle to storage at the fairgrounds. No word on how much it will cost to move from the fairgrounds to the courthouse eventually.

Expand full comment

Seems like they'd have to prove that this furniture, after moving and storage and moving again, would be cheaper than getting it through someone local like POE. Did they even check prices elsewhere? Do they really need high end?

We are happily driving and walking the Towne Road Dike-way!

There are lots of floodplain walking areas also by the river unless/until we are told we can't for some 'environmental' reason.

If you are friendly and smiling we will assume you are happy at having both a road and a trail.

If you are grumpy and withdrawn we will assume you are still in a delusion that 'your' wilderness trail was stolen from you.

Impressive article Jeff. Assembled as if an it were an indictment.

If an individual took it upon themselves to intentionally damage the dike so severely as to warrant the warning from the Jamestown Corporation to the public of an impending disaster one might consider that act criminal sabotage. Done under the cover of an ill-timed misunderstood agreement it's water under the bridge.

Expand full comment

Exactly. From the very beginning of this mess when the public became aware of what was going on, September 2023…..we begged for answers to the questions: WHY IS IT THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE COUNTY TO REPAIR AND PAY FOR THE EARLY BREACH OF THE RIVER BY JAMESTOWN TRIBE? Why wasn’t the cost shared? WHY IS THE COST THE FULL RESPONSIBILITY OF THE COUNTY? WHY WAS THE CORP OF ENGINEERS ULTIMATELY BLAMED FOR MISCOMMUNICATIONS & JST ABSOLVED FOR THE PHYSICAL BREECH OF THE LEVEE? No responsibility what-so-ever by JST, the Corp must have threatened them to remove the levee? All of the negotiations done in DARKNESS & no transparency! In the last 8 years I don’t recall any other local entity who is continually at the center of money controversy like the Jamestown Skallam Tribe. We’ve watched our elected leaders & their failure to listen to the people and we are all paying the price for their failures! Who would run a job this way? NO ONE!

Hegelian Dialectic, Delphi Technique...do some research...conspiracies are as real as breathing... in fact con-spire literally means to 'breathe with' which can be a positive or negative thing.

The fact that conspiracy theory has been brain-washed into public consciousness as a way to invalidate any inquiry into secret/clandestine happenings is the real story.

We collectively 'conspired' to stop the theft of our public domain, i.e., Towne Road.

So don't be intimidated by accusations of conspiracy theory...in fact a theory is considered plausible or probable until disproven...
