Ozias might not be familiar with urban trails, as he lives in the rural countryside, but urban trails have a 6” curb delineating them from roadways, they are also known more commonly as sidewalks. Millions of people in urban settings use these urban trails daily, walking alongside heavy traffic and vehicles traveling at high rates of speed. Oddly enough, people have generally felt that these urban trails are safe despite only having a 6” curb. Cities have even made it a priority to install more of these urban trails as pedestrians request safer spaces to walk alongside vehicle traffic. But if he feels these curbs are hazardous death traps, he should contact the City of Sequim ASAP, as they’e installing them along Sequim Dungeness Way as we speak!

This NEEDS to be a public comment!!! Please don't let it languish deep in the bowels of some hack-reporter's substack. This brilliance needs to be admired under the fluorescent glow of the lights in the commissioners' boardroom for all to relish.

Thanks for the reminder, it appears we are entering "letter writing" territory again.

You nailed it Morgan. I was just thinking about how, based on his concerns, it would be ok for Mr. Ozias to let farm traffic, Eberle traffic and tribe traffic traverse the road-as-a-pedestrian-trail WiTHOUTH any protection at all and very likely no speed limits. WATCH OUT WALKERS!

Then I was thinking about all the places where the ODT have NO curbing at all next to a vehicular roadway. You, however, summed it up spectacularly. I think Sequim might be a pretty safe place to walk. ;-)

I expected Commissioner Ozias would attempt something as each update approaches. As you aptly quoted Maya Angelou, he is who he is and always will be. We have a thorough timeline and multiple caches of emails that you have researched and shared to keep bringing to the podium every Tuesday. Thank you for this invaluable treasure, Jeff. Excellent comments today!

When Ozias talks he makes it worse and worse for himself. He talks as though we don’t know the history of the Towne Road project. As he describes the comp plan he says he feels the trail is the main component and will continue to advocate for it, I DIDN’T READ OR HEAR ANYTHING ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF A TRAIL WHEN THE PROJECT BEGAN, perhaps I missed something, perhaps everyone did??

Infact, THE TRAIL, wasn’t brought up until Eberly emailed OZIAS about people walking on the levee how nice it was and it should become a trail……oops breach…road closed….birth of a trail TADA🎉

Ozias has a mission to spend taxpayers money on projects that could be better utilized elsewhere while claiming it’s about the future? Trails to connect trails…..that in itself creates more spending to justify collecting more tax dollars. When the County does trails Ozias must make sure they are ADA, trash disposal & pick-up, parking area, security and enforcement, human waste and of course CONNECTING! It’s not his money he’s spending, it’s our money he has to creatively find ways to spend.

Ozias justified spending millions of our tax dollars to build a levee, designed & engineered to be a vehicle transportation road and now he says the main component of the comp plan is a TRAIL….

Ozias has donors and partners that have him by the …..and he is determined to make sure he remains committed to satisfying them so their $$$ keep rolling in.

MR. OZIAS HAS PROMISED TO GET THIS PROJECT DONE , HOWEVER HE HAS CHANGED HIS MIND, WHEN SAFETY ISSUES HAVE LEFT PEOPLE WITHOUT HOUSING. HE DOESN'T BELONG AS A COMMISSIONER? MR. OZIAS NEEDS TO REMEMBER HIS PROMISES AND GET THIS ROAD OPEN OR RESIGN AS A COUNTY COMMISSIONER.

Well said, Henry and Patricia.

So, replace the 6" curb with a 3' chain-link fence. Incremental cost almost nil.
