Nothing has changed. The Dungeness reservoir project has been entered in by purchasing land before getting citizens involved to decide if it should be pursued. Instead, they herd us into a big room and act like they're doing us a favor by us deciding which option we want, which if you voted for any of the options was tacit approval. Where was the option for I don't want it? Now we have another project in front of us with an unknown cost, but it's hurtling toward the cliff of unknown costs.
I'm unable to make the 11/26 meeting, but I highly encourage readers to get involved and take time out of their day to attend. It was illuminating to attend the last one.
The off-channel water reservoir should scare every taxpayer to death! It is an operation for 7 private water districts that serve their water customers in the Sequim valley. Where is the big benefit for the public? Someone in one of those water districts will control the water from the Dungeness River but no one knows who. The County can’t tell you, the water districts can’t tell you, no agency can tell you. After constructing a 72 acre reservoir on top of a hazardous waste dump next to two earthquake faults with no liner or cover to conserve water, who will pay to maintain the facility? Since the County is a partner in the reservoir project, we the taxpayers will be footing the bill for the reservoir ongoing. If you ask the Commissioners they will say, “Not sure how all that will work”. When we buy homes there is so much more we know about the home and how much we are going to pay for the next 30 years and so little we know about this multi-million $$$$ project, that should scare the hell out of every taxpayer! The County is not watching out for the taxpayers, every week it is so evident we the taxpayers are the cash cows.
Third place is sure expensive these days. Squeezing land owners like turnips for matching grant funds to tee it up for the tribes and the world economy. I wish they would hurry up and build that doctor good sprawl development overlooking the water in Sequim, lure some more turnips in to share the load.. Our county is blue because its full of federal grant nursing employees. The county yellow pages are far thinner than the government services section. (blue pages)
It's disconcerting that while a majority of the country repudiated the Democrat excesses Clallam County seemed to go deeper into the blue. The taxes will increase, the corruption will continue unabated as they feel emboldened. Thank You Jeff, I hope you keep doing this most important work. Keep uncovering the wrongs so we can point out the rights.
You need to speak up by going to the county meetings. Listen, you don't need to say anything. Get a feel for what's going on before you talk to ask questions if you have any. Share your thoughts back here were appropriate. Encourage your friends and neighbors who care about fiscal responsibility to get involved. I won't get into politics because it's a distraction from the basic premise that we want our leaders to use our tax dollars wisely, and to be honest about the decisions they make. That's a universal concept to anyone can appreciate in the conversation doesn't need to devolve into the divide that our country is in because the point is too easily lost.
The questions to French by the resident reminded me of the old game show, "I've Got A Secret" where a panel asks questions to determine the contestant's secret.
Is it not interesting how these government "experts" who so boldly claim to know everything about the direction that "we" (Americans) should follow, suddenly, as if by magic, claim complete ignorance when faced with any intelligent common-sense questions? Yet, as in the case of this excellent article for example, the entire room of local folks know the answer that completely eludes and is "unanswerable" by the expert know-it-all~! The pattern of these shady actors who are always pushing an agenda really is quite embarrassingly obvious, only the names and dates change. Of course, now, as was always predictable by the more experienced and intelligent folks, our out-of-control government has run the generous budget right into the ground, another thing that these government manipulators have continuously falsely claimed complete ignorance of over & over again for years, and low and behold they want to squeeze even more & more taxpayer money out of the community~! How grossly unfair of these criminal government actors in laughingly so-called "management" to constantly assault the property owners, who have precious few ways to defend themselves from these extortion tactics, to pay FAR more than their fair share of these never-ending rampant government mismanagement schemes~! These underhanded tactics are also grossly unfair to the good folks who do work in government and the various contractors because by having an intentional "unwritten policy" of constant fiscal mismanagement & overspending it destabilizes their lives and the lives of the entire community at large~! We can do better! We must do better!
Thank you, Tom~! I just humbly try to find the words of "we the people" as I know them to be from many decades of being an American Constitutionalist~! I take full responsibility for my words as they are intended, however I must give the real credit to the "higher power" that resonates within good folks all across the spectrum and especially through our collective society as one beautiful force for freedom and peace ;-) Welcome to a new America this beautiful day where Americans have overwhelmingly demonstrated their love & need to be free of oppression to enjoy prosperous lives~! Sincerely, Mike
Thanks Jeff on another great article pointing out the ideology of our commissioners, especially Mike French, and how he likes to spend our money. He suggested I read a book to explain his belief of where grant money comes from. " The Economists Hour" is a novel which Mike French uses to form his ideology. It parallels the "Modern Monetary Theory" that large countries, as the USA, can print as much money as they need, with certain prerequisite.
French is a master of convincing people money grows on some other tax trees somewhere, so it’s all okay and nothing to be seen or talked about here in Clallam County. Yet here we are, French has voted for it all that has led the taxpayers to this point of new tax increases, unaccountable expenditures (Cascadia), an expensive (Millions and Millions) off-channel reservoir for 7 private water districts, large project financial mistakes (Towne Road & Animal Roadhouse), private County & Tribe meetings on sovereign lands with no transparency…..on and on and on. Are you beginning to feel like a victim of elder abuse? Having your money stolen without knowing and no ability to defend yourself because the people doing the stealing are elected and that makes it all okay. Unfortunately the theft is not just older taxpayers, it’s the handicapped, the homeless, the children, the poor, it’s the theft of everyone to pay for all the pet projects. Enablers run others into the ground & our County is becoming a very good example of enabling behavior.
As cost overruns frequently occur, politicians seem to get wealthy on modest salaries, but I am sure that's just a coincidence.
Congratulations on your win(?) Jeff. I hope you will still have time to write these exposés as your new position tars and feathers corrupt politicians.
I have, Paul. There just doesn't seem to be any interest there. Some of my articles question the influence of the Tribe and they are a big advertiser in our local papers, so that may be why.
Hi Paul, I am working on that very thing. (see Nov 3 "there's a hole in the budget" (Jennifer comment) But it takes money to place anything anywhere. I am trying to set up sponsorship to pay for the very thing you suggest. Under Jeff Tozzer's approval and CC Watchdog, details like banking, funds for a financial sponsorship and all legal obligations need to be researched when there is money involved. In other words accountability. The one thing I do need is a CPA to donate time to help me. It's in its infancy and I am working with Jeff on this.
Jeff's laser is being pointed in just the right spots. The bar is now raised ...deal with it or go back to watching the Price is Right...or Springer re-runs.
I’m opposed to the tribe converting purchased property tax paying to the tribal Trust, non tax paying and would like our senators And congress to pass a federal law that prohibits the transfer of real estate to tribal trust nationwide. Aldo eliminate the tribal tax collection for services at tribal owned businesses nation wide. The tribes are taking
Extreme advantage of of the non native taxpayers, the treaties were written 150-200 years ago when no person had a vision for
Any project using taxpayer funds should be put to a vote of the citizens of the county BEFORE the project begins. NO increase in property tax or any special tax or levy in the county should be put into practice without a vote of the county citizens. Commissioners are stewards of taxpayer funds and obligated to be transparent in such duties. No closed door meetings, no financial deals with special interests. To do less than that brings distrust and bad decisions. We need to stop that behavior before it gets any worse.
Thank you letting people know about the lost revenue due to properties taken out of the community and no longer pitches in towards helping out with our roads or schools. That to me makes those properties, “foreign land”
The example you showed with the tribe owning a property worth 300,000.00 and zero goes to the community is shocking…. But you forgot to times that by 350 properties they have bought and are in their name at the assessor’s office in PA.:.
You're welcome. I've asked the assessor, treasurer, and commissioners how much has come off the property tax rolls due to tribal trust conversions, and nobody knows. I don't think they even have a computer program to figure it out. Something we will have to look into soon.
1. Literally zero Oversight of spending by those who actually pay the taxes funding these liberal clown college dropouts pet projects.
2. Overly bloated county government costs of employment, i.e. wages benefits, costs vs. Productivity, value, education and qualifications. Remember that those "Who cant" hack it in the private sector either teach or become "snivel servants"
3. Clallam county had a large percentage of veterans, especially elderly veterans and disabled veterans. A veteran with a 100% disability still is considered an income too large for 98% to afford the costs of a mortgage, property taxes, etc to get even the small and pathetic exemptions to only part of the taxes for real property only. Washington state has become hell for disabled folks either veteran or civilian, responsible society and common sense at the hands of liberal clowns and the excuse class.
I hope you send this exact comment to Commissioner Randy Johnson. He's a vet and these issues are very important to him. Randy.Johnson@ClallamCountyWA.gov
The treaty states that the tribes promise to not harm a US citizen. They were given their own land, they had a year to round up all their members, they were allowed to camp on US citizens land with permission… that does not mean every place they step foot on is theirs. They were given fishing rights, that doesn’t mean they own the waters.
Quick note: isn’t the arrival of illegal casinos but legal to them…causing harm to the US citizens? Isn’t taking land away from communities, causing harm to US citizens?
And the Indian representatives that signed the treaty asked that alcohol not be allowed on tribal lands. Health care was to be provided for twenty years. Nice that the Indians get to pick the terms of the treaty they wish to honor and the ones they wish to ignore; don't you think?

Just like the MAT clinic, eh? A done deal before the public is made aware.

You're always welcome, TJ.
Yesterday the people of America spoke up. My hope is that the people of Clallam County speak up!
They are speaking up, just a few at a time. Spread the word and the hope.
You need to speak up by going to the county meetings. Listen, you don't need to say anything. Get a feel for what's going on before you talk to ask questions if you have any. That’s about it. I’m working on getting you a form, please stay tuned in the next couple of days.

Yes please … and can we de fund the commissioners…
Jeff, have considered submitting some of your well-written articles to the Gazette and PDN as columns?

Three immediate thoughts come to mind.
1. Literally zero Oversight of spending by those who actually pay the taxes funding these liberal clown college dropouts pet projects.

The treaties were written to preserve their culture; not destroy ours.

Didn't know that.
