Misinformation by omission. A slick chart to show us that we'll be paying less than we used to that isn't so. It's as if a used car salesman came up with the framework.

As long as the end game is virtuous then being honest isn't a requirement, or following self-imposed or state rules can be dispensed with.

It worked for our citizens' initiatives to stop the natural gas ban, fuel tax, and other issues (how quickly I forget), by word-smithing the initiative to be obfuscating, as Ferguson did with Jim Walsh's initiatives in November.

Thanks again, Jeff, for bringing clarity to an issue that everyone thought was simple, when in fact, it's simply deceiving. No more special elections. All involved in this special election must explain to the voters how this was not voter suppression. Happy Valentine's Day! Love to all.

Is there a lawyer reading this that could shed light on the possibility of nullifying this special election on grounds of non-transparency and misleading wording by not declaring the true cost? It may take a legal mind to unravel. I see that the Clallam County Review Board has a proposal to require the Clallam County Commissioners refrain from stating position, either pro or con, on these special elections. Guess the no votes came from informed readers of CC Watchdog. Thanks Jeff for keeping us on our toes, someday most people will pull their head out and see the light.

RCW 42.17a.750 (1) (a) might be as aggressive as is possible

If the court finds that the violation of any provision of this chapter by any candidate, committee, or incidental committee probably affected the outcome of any election, the result of that election may be held void and a special election held within sixty days of the finding. Any action to void an election shall be commenced within one year of the date of the election in question. It is intended that this remedy be imposed freely in all appropriate cases to protect the right of the electorate to an informed and knowledgeable vote.

To answer your question, yes, it appears that legal action taken up to a year after the election could overturn it if it can be successfully argued.

Hi MK, I'm sure you are very aware that the problem with fighting this violation is who hires, pays and represents either an entity or individual. It all takes money and extreme perserverance to get past the hurtles to take it to court. I only wish Clallam County attorneys would do it. They are short staffed, overworked and underpaid! The well paid are not our county attorneys, it is the ones who decide how much they are paid.

On April 27, 2023, the WA State Supreme Court entered a ruling on "In re Recall of Bird et al., No. 100976-3."

While the question Eric asks has to do with the school district and their truthfulness in their advertising, something which the PDC doesn't enforce, the finding nonetheless it's a treasure trove of information clarifying what the current Supreme Court of Washington State looks for with respect to the open public meeting act, OPMA. It furthermore goes into discussion about the intent of the act and other ancillary court rulings.

In reading it I don't believe the burden is difficult to prove for anyone with standing to bring action. What is needed is a group of people who are willing to go and find an attorney to take this matter on pro bono, or on contingency.

Expand full comment
Jennifer's avatar

MK, I absolutely agree with you! The pro bono part is hard to find. Trust me, none are taking pro bono in Clallam County. In fact, just mention pro bono and they will "get back to you" and never do. We in Clallam County aren't heavy on the end of attorneys in the area needed--the ones that are have scheduled themselves to waayyyy out with projections that current cases won't settle for years. The nearest attorneys are probably closer to Seattle and would laugh at a pro bono case for Clallam County. I use to believe in the Justice System. Just try navigating it, it will take on average at least a month or more to find a lawyer to accept your case(maybe) They charge by a 20 minute system. When you send a quick text, you are charged for 20 minutes, which usually is $60. If you talk for 5 minutes, you are still charged for 20 minutes. If you talk for 21 minutes, you are charged for 40 minutes.

Usually they charge from $300 and hour up.

It's like the old time Dr Matlock doctors, the don't exist anymore. Yes, a group of people would work but there is no such thing as pro bono, I wish it were.

It's happening in the entire country because money that COULD/SHOULD be spent on infrastructure, instead gets spent on transgender operas in Colombia, Sesame Street programs for Iraq, and nonsense like that, with money skimmed off into politicians' pockets at every transaction. When the dust settles, there is nothing left for infrastructure.

Consider-- instead of all the BS programs for ne-er-do-well addicts, who CHOSE this path of life, that money could have gone to the school. Instead of paying administrators $750K/yr for what? Can't a group of teachers and parents do this at a meeting? That's $750K that could be spent on infrastructure. How much is being spent on illegal immigrants? On the bogus Zero-Carbob BS and dismantling useful dams? I could go on. We have been funding lies, graft, foreign interests, and corruption instead of what our society NEEDS. Thankfully, that seems to be changing now, but it's 50 years late. This crap didn't occur overnight.

The whole thing is technically illegal so should be overturned, nullified...more outrageous manipulation and lies...this is the result of 4 or 5 generations of Rockefeller controlled education which has gradually turned the minds of children into the corrupted minds of these amoral and immoral 'adults' which currently control our governments...not a THEORY but a plan...and it's working.

We need laws passed in which at least 51% of the voting public must participate especially on these HUGE long term commitments. Passing this levy with 11,000 voter participation in a county with 80,000+- people is a farce.

That way we COULD 'vote down' an issue simply by not participating...an active denial, instead of apathy denial. If not enough voters participated it simply wouldn't move forward.

BTW, we need the state to pass a bunch of the draconian bills working their way through the system...(all unconstitutional) so that the new federal admin. can help us clean our own house.

It's sink or swim (or move) time!😊

Good morning,

I'm asking each of you to take five minutes and read what's below. The Gazette and PDN need to know how many balls each dropped by failing to report critical details about the school bond with fairness and accuracy.

This is not about causing bond and levy to fail. Rather, it's about transparency in local government. You're failing in your critical roles as watchdogs for the communities you are supposed to serve.

Paul Schmidt

Sequim, WA

It's not enough that we wring our hands about what's going on. I proposed this last week and I'll propose it again. We need to call out the Gazette and PDN for their incompetence. A protest -- yes, a protest, just like the Perpetually Aggrieved Class do -- in front of the Gazette office or at Washington and Sequim Ave. with signs: WHERE ARE OUR WATCH DOGS? and LOCAL PRESS GIVES COVER TO GOV'T and NO EXCUSE FOR NOT REPORTING FACTS.

The local press likes publish photos of the Perpetually Aggrieved Class protesting every little thing. Would they have the integrity to publish a photo of citizens protesting their incompetence?

What is the history of the Sequim school District regarding violent events? Is my understanding that we’ve never had any person young or old Wave a gun or a knife or a hatchet or a rifle at any students in any Sequim school district facility. I’m willing to learn if that’s not true. In this government spend spend spend era, it seems like commissioners and Board of Education want to prepare for a potential situation that is unlikely to occur in the Sequim school district. Raising our taxes and putting vulnerable seniors out of their homes due to property tax increases is literally insane and should be avoided.

This is a tough issue for me because while I don't appreciate the lies, or that the needs the school district claims are valid enough to support the levy or bond measures, I unfortunately have to support that security in this day and age is a reality. Predicating the need based on past events here would miss the reality that every other school in the US where a shooting has occurred had no idea it could happen.

We don't know when these plans will originate, or be carried out. Some of the warning signals, or red flags, occur in the big cities, suburbia, or remote communities.

What we don't do well is train our teachers to identify the red flags to mitigate the potential for a shooting event. That's my opinion. I'd rather the teachers are educated and have the resources to support what they're seeing. It would be a proactive response.

You need only look at the approval ratio to see that a no vote is not only a wasted effort, but serves to ensure levy passage. With all educational system employees and school age children parents being automatic yes votes any no vote only serves to validate the levy was approved by a larger majority. If the levies do not require a minimum percentage of the voting public, they should. That percentage should be 60% or higher. Then the people opposed to the levy have at least a possibility to defeat it by not voting. Under our construct the only possible way to defeat a school levy is to not vote. When we have the most expensive per capita educational system in the world with the worst results in the world how could anyone believe more money is the answer ? Particularly aggravating when having worked hard enough to own your own home makes you a target for public funding.

How long will we even need these buildings? Washington State has a dismal education record https://reportcard.ospi.k12.wa.us/ . How has enrollment changed over the past <insert number>? The truth us that anyone who has been privy to these "closed door meetings" of government knows that the whole reason to hold "secret meetings" is obviously to keep the truth from being discovered by conspiring to find ways to deceive the general public, especially the voting public, to trick folks into complying with their underhanded agendas. It should not be too difficult for everyone to understand how these secret meetings really work, because it really is simple. These criminals who constantly conspire to deceive the public always work to come up with "feel good" language, like "The Patriot Act" and "Two weeks to flatten the curve" OR they use "fraudulent" fear tactics like changing the terms of "School Improvements" on ballots to terms like "Replace and upgrade deteriorating schools and improve safety" to deceive the weak minded with COMPLETELY inflammatory & baseless lies that are intended to create an hysterical response from people who actually believe that our school children are attending unhealthy and dangerous schools~! If our young students are actually attending dangerous and unhealthy schools now, then ALL of the administrators, office staff, maintenance workers, and teachers should be immediately fired and forbidden from ever being in charge of the safety of our young students again because that would, by definition, mean that they have already long ago COMPLETELY failed in their most important job~! For folks with any commonsense discernment at all, these weak "Jedi Mind tricks" are not only instantly obvious, but they actually reflect badly upon ALL of the people involved in these outrageous unconstitutional & underhanded "social engineering" tactics. I always feel sad & great pity for the few good folks in education who find themselves entrapped and enslaved by such a criminal system of deceit and fraud, because any decent human being would be completely mortified, embarrassed, and humiliated by this evil fraud machine that will continue to be ruinous to our otherwise wonderful community. Ha! We will in time have the most beautiful new schools and government buildings, for any ghetto of poor Americans in America and that sure will be a source of "false pride"~!

One button lockdown? I wonder how that could possibly go wrong? Are these exceptionally stupid and ignorant Individuals who are subjectively unilaterally imposing and supporting this insanity even aware that by installing a single "button" that would/could be "pushed" by a single Individual, therefore literally physically entrapping ALL adults and children in an "escape proof prison" (kill box), would expose everyone to any evil intentions of anyone within that evil trap? Could these idiots actually believe that someone/anyone would be SO exceptionally vigilant that they would be able to spot a threat approaching a school, before that threat actually got inside that school mind you, to be able to push that button in time to prevent a tragedy? When was the last time that anyone heard of a school actually detecting a threat BEFORE that threat gained entrance to the school to cause a tragedy? Not many times compared to the number horrific times that tragically failed the students and teachers that we have all seen... I have to wonder where these complete morons who somehow find positions of power really come from, because they definitely don't have any commonsense~! I can't imagine any decent parent allowing their children to attend a public school, because this corrupt system has SO many dangers embedded in it these days~! Speaking as someone who was actually entrapped in what for most was a hopeless deadly "trap", who actually did find a way to escape that trap that has killed hundreds of others, this concept of a "single button shut down" is clearly beyond insane and to me looks intentional, but I guess that you would have to be in such a situation to really understand... Few want to listen to the voice of commonsense and experience, so "history repeats" as always when incompetence and evil reign supreme~! EVERYONE, get ready to pay higher taxes and those of you who have supported more taxes at this time of historic recession, who "think" that you won't be facing a higher cost of living in this community yourself because you believe that you got away by pulling a fast one that you won't have to pay for, I don't want to hear your complaints when your foolish actions backfire on you. This higher tax insanity will of course be directly affecting ALL renters as well~! Maybe, God willing, the obvious tragedies that a "one button prison camp" for children clearly exposes our people to, won't come to our community before it has enough devastating tragedies to wake our community up to demand the changes that have been LONG overdue~! Good luck to all~! Sincerely, Mike

Well, I have actually known and even ridden a few camels in my life, and I don't remember any fleas on them, but your point is very well taken my friend~! With the recent news that President Trump and the white hats DOGE team has already entered the IRS headquarters to audit the evil criminal auditors, I believe that "we" are actually witnessing the final destruction of the criminal cabal in government that most are so sick of~! Our local community criminals however, being particularly stupid, ignorant and completely out-of-touch, obviously don't/can't see the new America that is headed their way like a MASSIVE freight train. So, instead of suffering from high blood pressure I strongly suggest that you rejoice in the knowledge that the low-level criminals within all of the local communities in America are continuing to make themselves known for their evil crimes, which will end up going VERY badly for them not too long from now~! Ha! This is a VERY good thing, because these "local criminals" have already been caught red handed, but they are continuing to seal their own fate by ignoring the obvious "storm" that has already begun long ago... My suggestion is that good folks like you who have been "long suffering" should take full advantage of these times to make every effort to remember exactly what these evil criminals have been intentionally doing all of our lives, because when it comes time for them to be criminally prosecuted and the guilty imprisoned or executed "we" all need to be strong and resolute in the fact that they have been removed from harming anyone else ever again~! This is NOT "retribution" but it will be Justice long overdue and that will be for the benefit of the young and future generations more than anything else. Of course, there is nothing that says that "we" can't enjoy Justice coming to the worst criminals in all of human history, but it is VERY important that "we" do not let any of the worst criminals who have committed treason and crimes against humanity off of the hook~! Have a great day and hang in there, because things are actually improving more every day now~! Sincerely, Mike
