Thank you Jeff - to put a light on the OTHER cemetery/buriel ground - left untended by the tribe for years during which time tribal elders were buried there without markers . It was our Uncle Doug who carved the names in cedar and placed on the graves - I am grateful for his stewardship and deep respect for those elders ! ❤️❤️❤️

Yes, he made markers for Dan and Leonard Wood (Leonard was my grandpa's favorite milker, and my mom loved him). I remember those metal markers with paper labels blowing away in the wind after just one rain season. I wonder how many sites were lost over time?

From the beginning they used money that didn't belong to them to get what they wanted, and continue doing so to this day. At what point are their undeserved (thanks Jeff for setting the record straight) "reparations" paid back, and at what point is enough money enough?

You're welcome, Kathy. I also would like to know when the debt will be paid.

Excellent and informative read! I had never heard the story of the massacre. I am so grateful there is a legal challenge and pray this takeover of The Spit's management is stopped before the damage is done.

The Siberian's migrated over across the ice bridge and colonized North America. Now they are this victim of colonization, that is using a court system that no other country had.

America, what a terrible dirty rotten place we are. We better let the tribes take over for being the colonizing bastards we are.:)

How much of this oyster farm's production does that tribe eat and what gets shipped to Asia?

From subsistence to a regional fishing and harvesting monopoly. They are smart as paint they are. They figured out how to bribe a political party to obtain a monopoly and power.

They are not better environmental stewards but they do make money better than non tribal members because they don't pay taxes. Any monopoly that sells more than it consumes couldn't possibly be an environmental steward. They have like 600 members. Look at the outflow of seafood from them.

They would fill ship after ship of seafood around the world to gain more money and power.

Who does Ron Allen think he is fooling.

We know who he is buying, the Democrat party.

You lost me on your the last statement. I am sure he buys both parties. I am concerned about conflicts of interest regarding a local democrat and he needs to be exposed.

Expand full comment

Oh they pay the Republican's to place, but they pay the Democrats to win. Just look at the PDC filings. They clearly pay the Democrats more from their tax free war chest.

If you don't pay taxes you should get to participate. I will pay closer attention.

600 members. Wow. That's a mighty big carbon footprint for 600 people to split profits off of. They hate that math. The colonization victim tantrum ejects from their mouth faster than you can say Jack Robinson when you point out just how far past subsistence they are and how much environmental damage they cause to make an outrageous financial killing.

600 people able to commercial harvest Washington State's biggest export next to frozen French fries.

Great article Jeff. I would like to remind people there is a petition requesting the Fish and Wildlife to STOP this Management giveaway to the Jamestown Tribe. Last I looked it had 450+ signatures. Here it is: https://www.change.org/p/urge-martha-williams-director-of-the-national-fish-and-wildlife-to-halt-handover-of-dungeness-spit-management-to-jamestown-tribe

It's good to know that white settlers weren't the only murdering thieves to historically occupy the lands! I'll keep that in mind if I ever develop any 'white guilt' for something I never did!😎

The ARROGANCE of Ron Allen and his group of thugs matches or exceeds any I've ever heard of or seen. Welcome to a Godless reality of a corrupt society, all the way 'round. The only thing that matters is wealth and power and humanity and nature both suffer for it. Keep on keeping on.🥸

Hey County Commissioners when will the USF&W be at the BOCC to explain what, where, why and when was it decided to hand over the management of the Spit to one particular organization? Our County, City and local residents have questions about our land.

Another excellent article, Jeff. Thank you for your continued efforts. I am curious: have you ever been retaliated against for your writing?

People don't curtsy or bow when they see me in town, but they never have (just something I would like to see someday).

Folks have been very supportive. The worst treatment I and others have received has regularly been in the commissioners' boardroom. Just Tuesday, a commissioner said, "Maybe Jeff Tozzer will go away once Towne Road is open" (after the cameras were off).

The most egregious attack we experienced was when a public commenter took to the podium and turned to the gallery instead of the commissioners. She scolded us for our treatment of the commissioners, said they have to come in every Tuesday to listen to us, told us, "They work their asses off for you," and ended by assuring us that Commissioner Ozias is a good man. The speaker knew this because she was married to Mark Ozias. The commissioners usually censor disrespectful speech and call out foul language, but Lisa Boulware was allowed to speak to us that way. Randy Johnson is a mature, reasonable commissioner, but French and Ozias allow and encourage antics that are more common in junior high. That's a long way of answering your question, but yes, we have been abused by the people we elect.

What the Tribe wants, the Tribe gets, because they own the local politicians.

An impact study should be done. If the tribe believes in the environmental safety and presumed success of this oyster farm, they can fund the study. No disrespect to the deceased, but the practice of dedicating land to all deceased has a very impractical outcome. I am assuming this transfer of land stewardship is in the form of a lease and not permanent ownership. Is that so ? I have no issue with the tribe taking the stewardship baton, as a let's see. I do have an issue with simply giving them the land.

Good to hear the environmentalists are going after their own or will Ron shell out to them too? Wonder how much Jamestown shells out to environment protection groups, would be interested to know since they care so much about being such good stewards of the environment? Sounds like merely everyday management of the Spit, unlike what has been done Allen has big & bigger ideas planned & easier to accomplish when controlling the management of the Spit, absolutely handed to him by USF&W! Plans unlike what & how the Spit has existed currently and in the past why would extra money be needed to simply manage the Spit day to day? Don’t we simply manage to maintain not to change and change what once was, Ron? Did they have tribal signs & totem poles all over the place long ago? No of course not. Jamestown will manage Protection Island too, what changes will be changed & erected there? The way I’m seeing this is a slow creeping invasion of tribal symbols & “this is our land we deserve this land back” until they accomplish what they are after, it’s already happened over & over in this area. What they can’t get politically they purchase outright because they are prospering while the rest of us are paying higher taxes (they pay none) to funnel the money to help them prosper now & for future generations. What a racket!

This makes the Trump family legacy of getting their gold by merely selling whiskey and prostitutes to miners seem quite benign.😆

Lewis and Clark documented an unprovoked massacre of natives by natives on their journey west.

Life was not sacred to 'them' or 'us'. The Old Testament is full of genocide and democide directed by 'god'. The Old Testament 'God, Yahweh', by whatever name, was in fact the 'Elohim' which means "powerful ones".

They were not a singular entity...and they warred against each other continuously...that is our human legacy...those are the beings who fashioned us in our current form...in whose image and likeness we were beautifully and horribly made.

Humanity has a long legacy of taking by force, stealing, tormenting, torturing, raping and murdering and these are the 'beings' who end up in power, lording it over the rest of us, who are capable of the above but choose not to actively participate.

The 'good guys/gals' are handicapped by their unwillingness to stoop that low...so here we are...between the proverbial rock and hard place. The 'fallen ones' have got this place sewed up....for now. Pray and meditate on the goodness we want...not the shit show we have.

For more information see Paul Wallis' videos and books on human history @paulanthonywallis.com and The 5th Kind.tv. There must be 'A God' because there is a formidable array of beings set against HE / SHE / IT! 😊
