Putting the translated desires of our residents into action through effective communication. How does a meeting schedule of Tuesday at 11:30 AM translate to effective communication and community involvement? What happened to our desire for an evening meeting, monthly, so working people could attend.
We know that at least one of the commissioners believes the "Tax Bucket" is bottomless (the government can just print more money), therefor they can spend, spend, spend...
Generally speaking, I find Government a self propagating beast that must be reigned in. The specifics of how to go about that would be ever so helpful. I plan to attend the Sunland meeting, but unsure of what best questions I might ask. Giving control public lands to the tribes is a separate issue to debate. Taking those lands off the tax roll is the problem. The tribes are not entitled to the benefits of public infrastructure without paying an equitable share of the cost.
Great analysis. More people need to understand the government financials. I would like to see the same for City of Sequim and Port Angeles. Do the growth rates in taxes and expenditures differ much? Do they also have multiple open meetings to discuss their financial performance?
Excellent recap of the BoCC's Tuesday meeting, Jeff. It was very difficult to sit thru that meeting hearing all of the budget woes. Very aggravating. It still bothers me that the "Revenue Challenge" for the county is that the annual 1% property tax increase is their lamentation. The insatiable beast either needs to learn fundamental accounting or go on Ozempic. I'll see you all on Tuesday.
Anyone who even mentions Universal Basic Income is a Communist. And…why not teach kids how work instead of fish, then they go but their own fishing poll and bait. Good grief, Playto was right. Any one not engaged in the political process will one day be ruled by their inferiors
Check out MRSC, Municiple Research and Services Center they are the support for just about everything in the state of Washington and Port Angeles Kate Dexter is all in with it all. It difficult to have a good budget & savings when you have to pay everyone else to do everything for you.
After attending numerous PA City Counsel meetings, Kate Dexter is one of the few that I respect. Of course I want her to remain of PA City County, else that run away freight train will continue to make Clallam County spenders look like amateurs.
There are sensible options for them , but they wont come from us, they will come from the non-profits and that collated two county policy making cabal. They now have total control over our region and only a federal Supreme Court can stop them.
They can't decide the money until the doctrine is decided for them...then the money will follow. I will make one of the public hearings.... they have to put at least a quarter the dog and pony show before the non-profits make the call after all the leveraging and log rolling..
There's something out their Colonel,,,,, jus pass dem treeees.... next to that pile of oyster shells and it aint no man ..its a non profit.... With money and power and the say so....with gladflys on the outside like customers watching a Krispy Kreme donut machine..
We already know the doctrine. Get even with the colonizer. How much will we spend to get even with ourselves this time. They hate capitalism so they have to insert the victims of capitalism to the front of the line so they get even now and hog the process for the people of color and climate migrants. They listen and follow best. No more gadfly, no more wealthy people, no more old people... nobody at all... except people of color and climate migrants.
Years ago sales tax revenue had declined. My comment was “with a casino in Sequim what would you expect”.A good share of the casinos revenue more than likely would have been spent locally bikes, fishing gear you name it.Had to have an impact since its opening.
True, and the Sequim event is during a commissioner meeting so I doubt Ozias will be at Sunland to talk to his constituents (but maybe that was planned).
Hmmmm.......The same time Free Samples start being served at Costco and the small size of the venue suggest that they're not expecting much of a turn-out
No matter how you split up the "Tax Pie" there is just so many people, land , businesses and other things you can tax: And then it stops! You need to tell the Governor to send you some of the sales tax money to make up your deficit. You & me are paying this high tax on all products sold in Clallum County & we [The fu**ken people} need to get some of that money back!
I'm not sure about your question, but I'll take a stab at it. The Casinos pay no sales tax. They may charge something on the receipt that says "tax", and it may equate to the sales tax, but it is tribal tax that is kept by the Tribes. Is that what your question was about?
Oh right this is Sunday…. And the debacle continues…. The gravity of this hasn’t reached the public because property flies off the griddle like pancakes… wait till they see this reverse… it will be people… dang Jeff where’s the pepto bismal!!!!

Equitable… $$$…. Not part of their language!

We already are, we just suffer from cognitive dissonance.

Good point.
This is what a collapse of empire looks like...over and over and over again..'.when will we ever learn?...when will we ever learn?'
11:30 on a weekday. A lot of folks are working.

That hall of justice league is killing us. For that money we should be getting Wendy, Marvin and wonderdog, and be safe from property crime.

Is there a relationship between the two Casinos and sales tax revenue?
